With reference to a legislative proposal submitted in the Belgian Senate and in response to the growing attention being given to ammunition control in the international debate on arms trade, the Flemish Peace Institute formulated an advice with regard to marking and tracing ammunition.

Advice concerning the global Arms Trade Treaty

In March 2013, all the Member States of the United Nations will gather in New York to negotiate a treaty about global standards for trade in conventional arms, the so-called Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). The Peace Institute formulates recommendations to the Regional and Federal Governments in Belgium, as well as the other actors involved in the negotiations, concerning specific positions which can be defended during the negotiations.

Advice on the Belgian regime for the control of brokering in military and dual-use items

(Advice in Dutch) Tussenhandel of ‘brokering’ vormt een aparte categorie van internationale wapenhandel. Tussenhandelaars bemiddelen en regelen transacties tussen producenten, kopers of verkopers.Het Belgische beleid inzake controle op tussenhandel is op dit moment vooral symbolisch: het werkt in de praktijk niet en om aan internationale afspraken te voldoen, heeft onze wetgeving een belangrijke update nodig. Daarvoor dient ook de Belgische bevoegdheidskwestie ter zake uitgeklaard. Met dit advies formuleert het Vredesinstituut concrete aanbevelingen voor een sluitende controle op tussenhandel in wapens en dual-use producten.

Advice concerning the yealy report of the Flemish Government on the Flemish foreign arms trade 2011

(Advice in Dutch) Het Vlaams Vredesinstituut vestigt in deze adviesnota de aandacht op een aantal belangrijke elementen met betrekking tot het jaarlijks verslag van de Vlaamse Regering aan het Vlaams Parlement over de verstrekte en geweigerde vergunningen voor wapens, munitie en speciaal voor militair gebruik of voor ordehandhaving dienstig materieel en daaraan verbonden technologie, dat werd ingediend bij het Vlaams Parlement.
